Hedgehog

Hedgehog signaling pathway is an essential signaling pathway in embryonic development. Hedgehog signaling pathway also plays a critical role in human cancer. The signaling cascade of this pathway is initiated by binding of a Hh ligand to its membrane receptor PTCH which inhibits Smoothened (SMO) in the absence of Hh. After binding of a Hh ligand, the repression of SMO by PTCH1 is lifted.  [show the full text]
