CCR5

CCR5 is a cell surface beta chemokine receptor. HIV uses CCR5 or CXCR4 as a coreceptor to enter its host cell by binding to a CD4 receptor.Deletion mutation of CCR5 is resistant to HIV-1 infection. Inhibiting human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection by blocking the host cell coreceptors CCR5 and CXCR4 is an emerging strategy for antiretroviral therapy.
