Aromatase, also called (estrogen synthase) belongs to a subfamily of Cytochrome P450 (CYP450). Aromatase is an enzyme which can transform androgens into estrogens in the central nervous system (CNS) so that aromatase can influence physiological and behavioral processes. Aromatase inhibitors can be potential drugs for breast cancer and ovarian cancer. The growth of some cancer cells depend on estrogen while aromatase inhibitors can block the synthesis of estrogen from the androgens.
